The last burn victim in gas cylinder explosion that occurred on April 12 in Bangladesh capital Dhaka’s Bhashantek area, died on Saturday while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
The resident surgeon of institute, Tariqul Islam, said that 18-year-old Liza, who suffered burns on 30 per cent of her body, breathed her last at 6:00pm.
Her 9-year-old brother Sujon, who suffered 43 per cent burns, died on April 24 while her father Md Liton and mother Surjo Banu and grandmother Meherunnesa died earlier while undergoing treatment at the institute.
On April 12, the incident took place at about 4:15am at a house in Bhashantek’s Shyamalpalli residential area, leaving six members of the family seriously injured.
‘The explosion occurred after one of the family members lit a match to ignite a mosquito coil. We assume that gas had accumulated in the house due to leakage from the LPG gas cylinder, which may have come in contact with the fire, causing the explosion,’ Bhashantek police station duty officer Md Borhan Uddin told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· after the incident.
