Two members of the notorious Sunderbans-based robber gang Karim Bahini were arrested during a joint operation by law enforcement agencies on Friday.
The arrested were identified as Al Amin and Rezaul Gazi.
Acting on a tip-off that the gang鈥檚 ringleader, Karim Sharif, along with his associates, had taken position near the Adachai Forest Camp, a joint team comprising members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard and Bangladesh Navy conducted a drive in the area on Friday night.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gang members managed to flee the scene.
Subsequently, a combing operation was launched in the area, during which Al Amin was detained along with one firearm, one bullet and six bullet shells.
Following his interrogation, the joint forces arrested another gang member, Rezaul, from the Sunderbans.
According to officials, both detainees had long been involved in criminal activities with the gang and were responsible for supplying weapons, ammunition and other logistical support to the group.
The Bangladesh Coast Guard continues to maintain 24-hour patrols across coastal and riverine areas under its jurisdiction to ensure law and order.
Officials say these efforts have led to a significant improvement in the overall security situation.
The Coast Guard has affirmed that such operations will continue in the future to keep the Sunderbans region free from criminal elements.
