
A workshop on ‘Industrial Water Use Policy’, jointly organised by Water Resources Planning Organisation and 2030 Water Resources Group, World Bank was held at the Multipurpose Conference Hall of Pani Bhaban on Green Road in Dhaka on Wednesday, said a press release.
State minister Zaheed Farooq, Ministry of Water Resources, was present as the chief guest in the workshop. Ministry of Water
Resources secretary Nazmul Ahsan presided over the workshop. The workshop was also attended by Michael John Webster, programme manager, WRG-2030, World Bank.
Md Rezaul Maqsud Zahedi, director general of Water Resources Planning Organisation presented the keynote at the workshop. Representatives of different ministries, heads of organisations, teachers of universities, representatives of public and private industrial organisations including industrial associations and representatives of 2030 Water Resources Group, World Bank attended among about 150 dignitaries.
The guest of honour of the workshop, Michael John Webster welcomed such an initiative, adding that water secure sustainable industrial development.
Six expert discussants on the proposed policy — Kazi Matin Uddin Ahmed, professor, Department of Geography, Dhaka University; Zillur Rahman, dean, Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Dhaka University, Chowdhury M Sarwar Jahan, professor, Department of Geology and Mineralogy, Rajshahi University; Md Shahinur Islam, professor, Department of Chemistry, BUET; Mohammad Abed Hossain, professor, Institute of Water and Flood Management, BUET and Mohammad Taufiqul Islam, joint secretary, Cabinet Division participated in the discussion.
