
The number of Bangladeshi Hajj pilgrims, who died in Saudi Arabia this year, reached 53 as of Friday, according to religious affairs ministry.
Among the deceased, 40 were men and the rest 13 women.
The ministry鈥檚 Hajj bulletin revealed that 42 Hajj pilgrims died in Makkah, four in Madinah, six in Mina, and one in Jeddah.
As of Friday, a total of 26,909 Hajj pilgrims had returned to the country on 61 flights after completing Hajj. These flights were operated by three airlines, with Biman Bangladesh Airlines conducting 17 flights, Saudi Airlines 24 flights, and Flynas operating 20 flights.
This year, approximately 85,225 Muslims embarked on 218 flights to perform Hajj between May 9 and June 12.
The first return flight arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on June 20. The last return flight is scheduled to arrive on July 22.
Arab diplomats on Tuesday reported that at least 550 pilgrims died this year, with the majority due to heat-related illnesses after temperatures reached 51.8 degrees Celsius in Makkah, Islam鈥檚 holiest city.
