
The 23rd death anniversary of internationally-reputed arsenic researcher Shibtosh Roy will be observed on Tuesday.
On July 2, 2001, Shibtosh Roy died in a road accident at Taraganj upazila in Rangpur at the age of 51, said a press release issued by the Dhaka Community Hospital Trust.
Shibtosh went to the northern region of the country to identify arsenic-affected patients for a joint research programme of Dhaka Community Hospital Trust, Commonwealth Research Organisation of Australia and Dhaka University鈥檚 geology department. He visited villages in 460 upazilas under 64 districts in the country to treat arsenic patients, read the release.
Dhaka Community Hospital observes Shibtosh鈥檚 death anniversary every year. His family also holds a religious function on the day for eternal peace of the departed soul.
