
Leaders of Ganatantra Mancha, a combination of six political parties on Thursday at a rally in Dhaka called on the Awami League government to take immediate steps to resolve the ongoing crisis respective to student demands to reform the quota system in government jobs.
They called on the government to resolve the problem politically to stop killings of the students by police with cadres of the ruling party student organisation having already killed more than seven students.
Mancha organised the guardians rally in front of the National Press Club where Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq chaired.
Saiful Huq called on the government to resolve justified movements of the students politically and sit with the students immediately.
Extending support to the all-out movement of the student shutdown, Saiful Huq said that the government would be compelled to fulfil the demands of the students.
Chief coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolan and also coordinator of Mancha Zonayed Saki said that the Awami League government was trying to stop the movements of the students applying force as a result of repressions on the students by law enforcers and cadres of Chhatra League.
Moreover, the government was creating anarchies in the movement and blaming the students for those misdeeds, Saki said.
Saki said that the justified movements of the students could not be stopped through attacks and force.
He called on the government to resolve the crisis politically.
Bhashani Onusari Parishad convener Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu said that the Awami League government was trying to remain in power without peoples’ verdict.
Mancha would continue its movements until resignation of the Awami League government from power, Sheikh Rafuqul Islam said.
Nagarik Oikya general secretary Shahidulla Kaisar said that the movements of the students would win.
He called on the government to stop repressing the students and fulfil their demands.
Rastra Sanskar Andolan chief coordinator Hasnat Quaiyum demanded stopping repressions on the students and resolving the crisis through discussion.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD vice-president Siraj Mia also called on the government to fulfil the demands of the students without any delay.
The rally was followed by a protest procession that ended at Purana Paltan crossing.
