The Supreme Court and its subordinate courts would remain closed on Tuesday as the government announced the day, the fourth day of curfew, as general holiday, according to a SC release.
The government imposed the curfew until 10:00am on Sunday from midnight past on Friday, to contain law and order situation in the country amid students’ quota reform movement, which left over 150 people dead.
On Saturday night, the curfew was extended for indefinite period with break of several hours every day.Â
The Appellate Division sat Sunday morning during the curfew to hear and dispose of two petitions – one filed by the government for cancellation of a High Court June 5 verdict that ordered maintaining quota in government jobs – another by two Dhaka University students, seeking quota reformation.
The Appellate Division scrapped the High Court verdict on quota in government jobs and ordered a 7 per cent quota – 5 per cent for the children of freedom fighters, 1 per cent for national minorities, and 1 per cent for people with disabilities and third genders.
