Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina visited Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital at Shahbagh and Central Police Hospital at Rajarbagh in the capital on Sunday afternoon to check on the injured victims of the recent nationwide violence.

The prime minister arrived at the police hospital at 5:00pm and, later, visited the BSMMU where she inquired about the condition of those who were injured in unrest centring around student protests demanding quota reforms in public services.


The premier provided necessary instructions to the hospital authorities to ensure that the victims received proper treatment.

During her visit to the BSMMU, vice-chancellor Professor Deen Mohd Noorul Huq and BSMMU Hospital director Brig Gen Md Rezaur Rahman briefed the prime minister on medical care provided to the injured.

At the Central Police Hospital, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan and Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, among others, were present.

As many as 39 members of the police are now undergoing treatment at the Central Police Hospital.

Three police members were killed and some 1,131 others injured in the recent countrywide unrest.

Accompanying the prime minister on her visits were Sheikh Helal, MP, cabinet secretary Md Mahbub Hossain, PM鈥檚 principal secretary M Tofazzel Hossain Miah, PM鈥檚 press secretary Md Nayeemul Islam Khan and PM鈥檚 personal physician Professor ABM Abdullah.

Earlier, Sheikh Hasina had visited Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday and the National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation on Saturday to inspect the condition of other victims of the violence.

Besides, the prime minister visited the vandalised metro rail station at Mirpur 10 on Thursday, Bangladesh Television Bhaban in Rampura on Friday, and the damaged Setu Bhaban, Department of Disaster Management building, and the toll plaza of the Elevated Expressway at Mohakhali on Saturday.
