
Police released three Rajshahi University students on early Thursday, about ten hours after they were arrested at the university campus on Wednesday afternoon.
They were released at about 12:50am on Thursday under the supervision of teachers, said Sheikh Mobarak Pervez, officer-in-charge of Matihar Police Station.
The released students are — Sayed Samiul Basit and Mazed Hasan, masters’ students of the English department, and Naim Islam, first year student of Institute of Education and Research.
Earlier, police and detectives arrested five RU students raiding different areas in the city for interrogation and took them to two police stations and DB office.
Among the five students, Basit, Mazed, and Naim were taken to Matihar police station while physics department third year student Rifat Hasan was taken to the Rajshahi DB office, and law department first year student Prattay was taken to Rajpara police station.
After the information of detaining the five students was disclosed, university teachers rushed to the duo police stations and the DB office to release their students.
 Although Matihar police station released the trio students, Rajpara and DB police are yet to release Prattay and Rifat till filing this report at about 10:30am.
Meanwhile, sub-inspector Md Abu Shahadat filed a case against 14 named and numerous unnamed students with Rajpara police station on Wednesday night for vandalising a police car.
Rafiqul Haque, officer-in-charge of Rajpara police station, said that DB police handed RU student Rifat Hasan to them and they showed Rifat and Prattay arrested in the case, along with several other students.
