The Student Movement against Discrimination on Monday evening announced that it would give an outline of a national government within 24 hours.
The movement made the announcement at a press conference at around 9:30pm in the capital’s Tejgaon area.
Dedicating the achievement made through Sheikh Hasina’s downfall to the martyred and injured people who participated in the movement, coordinator Nahid Islam said that it was just the first step in victory.
He said that the second step would be placing an outline of the national government by the students and people of the uprising.
Nahid said that the movement would not accept any army-backed government or government under state of emergency or under president.
He said that their demand was the downfall of Hasina and the end to her fascist system, but they believed removing the individual would not solve the problem.
He said that the state structure that allowed such a fascist system to emerge had to be eliminated and a political settlement must be reached.
The national government will incorporate representatives of the students and people of the uprising, members of civil society, and representatives from other quarters.
The representation will be ensured following talks with everybody concerned and their names will be made public.
Nahid said that they first needed to sit with coordinators and other stakeholders to present a collective and democratic decision to the nation.
The movement announced all martyrs as national heroes.
Sheikh Hasina will not be spared, we will bring her to justice, said Nahid, adding that those who directly helped fascism and their supporters would also come under trial.
Nahid said that Hasina’s resignation would not resolve the problem.
The authoritarian regime must be tried for the mass killings and Pilkhana killings, disappearances, and snatching people’s voting rights away.
People who were arrested during the movement and the fascist regime have to be freed within 24 hours, Nahid said.
Nahid called on the agitating students and people to stay in the streets until the outline of the national government was given.
He also urged all to be careful so that the collaborators of the fascist could not ruin the success of this movement.
Nahid urged all concerned to protect state property and prevent all attempts of attack on minorities.
He called for ensuring justice through a legal process and asked to refrain from taking the law in own hands.
He said that there was no division among the protesters due to differences in opinion, political beliefs, and religious identities.
The movement requested all to keep trust in the proposal made by the students and people of the uprising.
If any party supports the fascist regime’s conspiracy to make a B-team of Hasina, the protesting people will not allow it, said Nahid.
Responding to a question over three coordinators’ taking part in a meeting at Bangabhaban, another coordinator Asif Mahmud said that they were not aware of the matter.
He said that they would communicate with them, listen to them, and take necessary action.
The movement also remembered those who embraced ‘martyrdom’ during the ‘fascist regime’ of Sheikh Hasina.
