The newly appointed inspector general of the police, Md Mainul Islam, on Wednesday, requested all personnel of the police to return to duty within the next 24 hours.
He called upon all members of the police at a press conference held at the police headquarters on Wednesday afternoon.
The government on Tuesday appointed Traffic and Driving School commandant Md Moinul Islam as the new inspector general of the police.
Public Security Division of the home ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Tuesday.
The decision came a day after the fall of Sheikh Hasina-led government amid mass uprising triggered by student protests.
Moinul replaced Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, whose tenure as the police chief was extended by one more year on contract on July 5.
The contractual appointment of Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun as the police was cancelled in a separate circular on the same day.
