Bangladesh Retired Police Welfare Association in a statement on Thursday demanded trial of those members of the police involved in killings and torture of protesting people, including students, during protests for quota reform in government jobs.
They also condemned some officials’ partisan and unprofessional activities siding with the autocratic government and pressing for ensuring justice by bringing them to justice.
‘Unprofessional and partisan behaviour of some overenthusiastic police officials led them to kill and torture students and people siding with the autocratic government,’ said the BRPWA statement signed by its president AT Ahmedul Haque Chowdhury, also a former inspector general of police on Thursday.
The statement also urged police members to return to duties for ensuring security of the people.
It also requested people from all walks of life to assist police members so that they could return to their workplace.
The welfare association also hoped that the police authorities would fulfil their logical demand.
‘The people took to the streets amid festivities and enthusiasm after the fall of 16 years
regime of the autocratic government,’ it said, adding that the retired officials were also in a festive mood for the victory of Student Movement Against Discrimination and the ordinary people. Â
