The cash of about taka 7 lakh and a mobile phone looted from the house of Awami League leader and former Barishal mayor Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah was handed over to police.

Kawnia police station officer-in-charge Asaduzzaman Asad on Saturday said that taka 6 lakh 92 thousand and a mobile phone recovered by people of the area handed over to police station.


The money and a mobile phone were recovered from the house of Jamal Khan, a fruit trader, resident of Palashpur of Barishal city, the OC added, mentioning that legal action was under way in this regard.

Qayyum Khan, father of Jamal Khan, said that Jamal kept the looted money in his house, and as local people raided the house, he ran away.

A resident of the area, Rajib Sardar, said that Jamal was involved in the Awami League politics so that he often visited the residence of Sadiq Abdullah.

After the resignation of Sheikh Hasina as prime minister, Sadiq Abdullah鈥檚 house was attacked and vandalised, looted and set on fire on August 5.

However, Jamal ran away, no statement was received from him.
