Agricultural scientist and biotechnologist Md Abdullah Yousuf Akhond has been appointed as new director general of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, said a press release on Tuesday.聽
According to the order issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, he has been appointed as the DG of BARI.
Earlier, he served as a director (research) of BARI, Gazipur.
He joined at the BARI鈥檚 Plant Breeding Division as a scientific officer in 1992.
Abdullah Yousuf Akhond earned PhD degree with advanced research on gene editing from the University of Dundee, Scotland, and completed his postdoctoral research degree on gene silencing from Science and Advice for Scottish Agriculture, Scotland, UK.
He has been regularly supervising MS, PhD students of various universities and providing up-to-date guidance on modern research topics to the scientists of the institute.
Akhond is a pioneer of modern biotechnology research at the BARI. He also regularly publishes scientific articles in various local and foreign scientific journals.
