The government on Monday has appointed Mohammad Abdur Rouf as new managing director of the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, the implementing agency of metro rail services in the capital.
On the same day, the government cancelled the appointment of its first and immediately past managing director MAN Siddique.
The road transport and bridges ministry on Monday issued two separate circulars in this regard.
The decisions came after allegations surfaced that the appointment of MAN Siddique did not follow proper procedure.
One of the circulars read that the additional project director of Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (Line 5) Northern Route, additional secretary Mohammad Abdur Rouf, has been given the acting duty of managing director of the company.
He would get salary and other allowances as per his current position and the order would be in effect immediately, the circular added.Â
Another circular read that the circular issued on October 26, 2017 for appointing MAN Siddique as the managing director of the company has been cancelled.
The order would be in effect immediately, the circular added.
Before this position, Siddique retired from the position of secretary in Road Transport and Highways Division under the road transport and bridges ministry.
In the 2017 circular, issued by the road division, there was no mention of the period of tenure of his position of managing director in the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited.
The 20.1-kilometre-long Mass Rapid Transit Line–6, popularly known as the metro rail, was inaugurated on December 28, 2022.
