
A Rangpur court on Tuesday noon placed two police officials on four-day remand in a case filed over the killing of anti-quota movement leader and Begum Rokeya University student Abu Sayeed on July 16.
The two accused are Tajhat police station assistant sub-inspector Md Amir Ali, and constable Sujon Chandra Roy.
Judge Asaduzzaman of the Rangpur Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, placed the accused on four-day remand after the Police Bureau of Investigation produced them before the court seeking five-day remand each for proper investigation, confirmed the plaintiff鈥檚 lawyer Rokonuzzaman Rokon.
Earlier on Monday evening, the PBI arrested the two police officials over their involvement in the murder of Abu Sayeed.
Rangpur PBI superintendent ABM Zakir Hosain said that PBI arrested the duo on primary suspicion regarding their involvement in the killing of Sayeed taking approval from the police headquarters.
Both the accused were suspended from their jobs on August 3 following a probe. They were kept under strict surveillance at the police lines barracks before being formally handed over to the Police Bureau of Investigation on Monday afternoon.
On August 12, Abu Sayeed murder case was transferred to PBI Rangpur for investigation.
Abu Sayeed, a 12th batch student of the English department at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur and a coordinator of the quota reform movement, was the first student killed in police firing during the movement.
