
At least six people, including a college principal, were killed in separate road accidents in Narail, Natore and Sylhet between Tuesday evening and Wednesday.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that three persons were killed and one was critically injured in a road accident on the Kalna-Narail-Benapole highway in Maita Kumra area under Lohagara in Narail district on Wednesday.
The deceased, Shamim Sheikh, 20, Zia Biswas, 45, and Russell Molla, 19, were residents of Maita Kumra in the district.
Lohagara police station officer-in-charge Abdullah Al Mamun said that Rasel鈥檚 grandmother had passed away and the four people were carrying a stretcher from a mosque to their home to move her body.
As they reached Maita Kumra area, a truck coming from Lohagara hit the stretcher-bearers, leaving three people died on the spot and one critically injured, said the OC.
The injured was taken to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Narail Sadar Hospital for better treatment.
The United News of Bangladesh reported that two people, including principal of Tamaltala Technical College, were killed and another injured in a head-on-collision between two motorbikes on Natore-Bogura highway at Dalsarak in Natore sadar upazila on Tuesday evening.
The deceased were Rafique Sarkar, 55, a worker of a Natore Palli Bidyut Samity, and Zulficker Ali, 31, principal of Tamaltala Technical College.
The accident occurred when a motorbike carrying the victims hit another motorbike, leaving three people injured, said Natore Fire Service official Shahadat Hossain.
The injured were taken to Sadar hospital where the doctors declared Rafique dead.
Principal Zulficker was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital where he died at night.
Meanwhile, another motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a bus on the Sylhet-Dhaka highway in Begumpur Bazar of Sadipur union in Sylhet on Tuesday night, reported the BSS.
The deceased was Biswajit Sutradhar, 27.
The accident occurred when a Cox鈥檚 Bazar-bound bus of Ena Paribahan hit the motorcycle around 10:00pm, leaving two motorcycle riders seriously injured, said Sherpur highway police station OC Parimal Chandra Dev.
The injured were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared Biswajit dead.
Police seized both the vehicles from the spot, but the driver of the bus managed to flee, the OC said.
