An additional chief metropolitan magistrate court in Dhaka on Tuesday allowed the police to take detained Ekattor TV chief editor Mozammel Haque Babu, Bhorer Kagoj editor Shyamal Dutta, and Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee president Shahriyar Kabir in police custody for seven days for interrogation in two cases filed with Ramna Police Station and Bhashantek Police Station in Dhaka over deaths of two protesters during the recent student-led mass uprising.

Another additional chief metropolitan magistrate in Dhaka, Mahbubul Haque, on the day placed Workers Party of Bangladesh president and former civil aviation and tourism minister Rashed Khan Menon on a fresh remand for three days for attacking Bangladesh Nationalist Party standing committee member Mirza Abbas during an election campaign in the capital鈥檚 Shegun Bagicha on December 15, 2018, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.


On the other hand, a Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court on the day sent former railways minister Nurul Islam Sujan to jail after he was produced before the court in a murder case filed at Jatrabari police station.

Besides, a senior judicial magistrate court in Dhaka on the day placed former additional superintendent of police Abdullah Hil Kafi on a two-day fresh remand in an attempt to murder case filed with Ashulia police station.

Dhaka court inspector Asaduzzaman said that additional chief metropolitan magistrate court in Dhaka, Md Sanaullah, responding to a petition seeking a 10-day remand, allowed the police to take Mozammel and Shahriyar in a murder case filed with Ramna police station.

Mozammel and Shahriar were accused in a case filed with Ramna police station for killing 19-year-old girl Liza Akter on July 18 during the student-led mass uprising, police said.

The victim鈥檚 father Joynal Sikder filed the case on September 5.

The same court, responding to a plea by sub-inspector Md Shahidul Biswas of Bhashantek Police Station, on Tuesday allowed the police to take Shyamal Dutta in police custody for seven days in a case filed with the police station over a shooting incident that led to the death of a youth during the student-led mass uprising, reported state-run news agency, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.

Shahriar Kabir was arrested early Tuesday at Banani in Dhaka.

Four people, Mozammel Babu and Shyamal Dutta, were apprehended by local people while attempting to go to India through Dhobaura border in Mymensingh. They handed the four over to Dhobaura police on Sunday night.

Court inspector Asaduzzaman said that metropolitan magistrate Shaheen Reza, hours after placing remand for three days for former railways minister Nurul Islam Sujan in a murder case filed with Jatrabari police station for killing student Imran Hossain during the student-led mass uprising, suspended the order and sent him to jail.

Jatrabari police station sub-inspector Shah Alam Mia, also the investigation officer of the case, produced the former minister before the court and sought a five-day remand for interrogation in the case.

Sujan was arrested at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital of Shyamoli area in the city Monday evening.

According to another BSS report, a senior judicial magistrate in Dhaka, Md Julhas Uddin, on Tuesday placed former additional SP Abdullah Hil Kafi on a two-day remand in an attempt to murder case filed with Ashulia police station.

The court passed the order after investigation officer of the case, SI Abu Taher Miah pleaded for a seven-day remand.

Earlier, the same court placed him on an eight-day remand.

Kafi was arrested by Detective Branch of the DMP from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on September 2 while he was trying to flee Bangladesh.

On September 11, Md Rabiul Sunny filed the attempt to murder case with Ashulia police station against 30 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

The other accused in the case include former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, former education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, former secretary of the University Grants Commission Ferdaus Zaman, former UGC members Md Alamgir, Biswajit Kumar Chanda and Md Sajjad Hossain.
