The Anti-Corruption Commission on Wednesday decided to launch inquiries against three people, including Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University former vice-chancellor professor Soumitra Sekhar Dey and former assistant personal secretary of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina Gazi Hafizur Rahman Liku over allegations of corruption.

The commission also decided to hold an inquiry against former Awami league lawmaker for Chattogram-16 Mustafizur Rahman Chowdhury over an allegation of amassing illegal wealth through corruption.


The decisions were taken at ACC headquarters as the commission investigation unit found primary proof of the allegations of corruption against them, said ACC deputy director for public relations Aktarul Islam.

According to the allegations, Soumitra Shekhar, also a professor of the Bangla department at Dhaka University, amassed a huge amount of wealth through abuse of power and corruption since taking charge as vice-chancellor of the JKKINU.

There are allegations that he was allegedly involved in the admission of many students at the JKKNIU in exchange for money in the cluster system admission for the academic year 2021-22.

Soumitra is also allegedly involved in corruption and irregularities in the recruitment of teachers and employees to the university, including to the department of environmental science of the university.

Besides, the money deposited by the contractors was transferred from Sonali Bank to Rupali Bank and charged a commission of Tk 50,000 per crore, while he also embezzled public money showing fuel costs of his car, according to the allegations.

Soumitra also bought a duplex house at his village in Sherpur, while he owned several flats at Dhanmondi and Uttara in Dhaka and land in Sherpur.

According to the allegations, Gazi Hafizur Rahman Liku amassed a huge amount of wealth through abuse of power and corruption when he was APS-2 of the former prime minister Hasina.

Liku in the name of his wife owned M/s Rafi Agro and Fisheries, and bought several hundred bighas of land in Ramdia of Kashiani in Gopalganj.

He owned an apartment at Mohammadpur Modhu City while he was illegally allotted government plot number 46 on Road 3 in Sector 17 of Uttara in Dhaka.

Liku also purchased 10 decimal of land in the Gopalganj municipality and built a five-storey house on his ancestral land.

In the name of his brother-in-law, a six-storey house, a 10-storey commercial and residential building, a six-storey building on a bigha of land at Modhucity of Mohammadpur in Dhaka, and Ocean Blue Resort near Kuakata Light House were also constructed.

Meanwhile, former lawmaker Mustafizur Rahman Chowdhury amassed a huge amount of illegal wealth during his two terms as a lawmaker through corruption and irregularities.

According to his election affidavit, his annual income was Tk 15,000 in 2014, but the income was increased to Tk 32.68 lakh in 2024.

His wealth includes four acres of ancestral land, three-katha plots of Rajuk, four-katha plots, and shops at Chawk Bazar super market.

There is a five-storey house in the name of the wife, a flat of 1,872 square feet at Kafrul in the capital, said the allegations.
