Three cases — two on murder charges and one for vandalism — have been filed in Rangamati and Khagrachari.
One murder case was filed over the death of an ethnic minority person and another for vandalism during the clashes between indigenous people and Bengalis in Rangamati on Friday.
Confirming the matter, Rangamati additional superintendent of police (Sadar Circle) Jahedul Islam said that the victim’s father Adar Sen Chakma filed a murder case against unidentified people over the killing of his son Anik Kumar Chakma on Saturday.
‘Police filed another case over arson attack and vandalism,’ he added.
Anik Kumar Chakma died in the clashes between indigenous people and Bengalis in Rangamati on Friday during a procession protesting at attacks on ethnic minority people in the aftermath of violence in Khagrachari on Thursday.
More than 100 houses and shops were set on fire in the clash at Boalkhali of Dighinala in Khagrachari hill district.
The clash erupted at about 4:00pm when Bengali Chhatra Parishad brought out a procession protesting against the death of Md Mamun.
Another case was filed over the murder of 35-year-old trader Md Mamun, who was allegedly beaten to death in the Shalban area of Khagrachari’s Dighinala upazila on September 18.
Mamun’s death led Khagrachari to witness fierce violence and unrest on Thursday afternoon, leaving three persons killed in Dighinala and Khagrachari sadar.
Confirming the matter, Khagrachari Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Abtul Baten Mridha said that the victim’s wife Mukta Akhter filed the case on September 19 against three Bengali people.
The three accused are Md Shakil, 27, Rafiqul Alam, 55 and Didarul Alam, 50.
Besides, 10-12 unidentified Bengalis and ethnic minority people were also accused in the case.
