
At least seven people, including a woman, were killed and 11 others injured in separate road accidents in Jhenaidah, Panchagarh, Chattogram and Magura between Monday night and Tuesday.
In Jhenaidah, two people were killed and another was injured in a road accident on the Jhenaidah-Chuadanga highway in Sadhuhati area under Sadar upazila of the district early Tuesday, reported Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.
The victims are Anisur Rahman, 65, of Baro Kaunia village and Farukh Matubbar, 45, of Bhawal village under Saltha upazila of Faridpur.
Officer-in-charge of Jhenaidah Sadar police station Shaheen Uddin said that the accident occurred in the area while a mini truck hit another in front of it at about 4:50am as it was travelling from Faridpur to Meherpur, leaving two people dead on the spot and injuring another.
The wounded was taken to Sadar Hospital. Later, police recovered the bodies and handed over those to their families, the OC added.
In Panchagarh, an elderly woman was killed in a road accident at Prosiker crossing on the Debiganj-Nilphamari Asian highway under Debiganj upazila of the district at Tuesday noon, BSS reported.
The deceased is Sajiron Begum, 70, wife of late Abul Hossein, of Patowarypara village of the upazila.
Police said that the accident took place in the area at about 2:00pm when a motorbike hit the woman, leaving her critically injured, said OC of Debiganj police station Md Sohel Rana.
She was sent to Debiganj upazila health complex where the attending doctor declared her dead.
Four people were killed in separate road accidents in Chattogram and Magura districts Monday night, reported United News of Bangladesh.
In Chattogram, two people died and at least nine were injured, when a brick-laden truck lost control and crashed into a roadside shop near Shah Amanat Bridge.
One of the deceased is Bikash, 24 while the identity of the other was not immediately known.
Witnesses said that the truck, heading to New Market, lost control and hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle before smashing into some adjacent shops.
The number of casualties might increase, said Karnaphuli police station.
Sub-inspector Nurul Alam Ashiq of Chattogram Medical College Hospital police outpost confirmed that 11 people were admitted to the hospital, and two were pronounced dead by the doctors when brought there.
Efforts were underway to identify the victims, he added.
In Magura, two motorcyclists were killed, and one severely injured in a three-vehicle collision involving a private car, a motorcycle, and an easy-bike in the Kashinathpur signboard area of the Magura-Jhenaidah highway.
The deceased are Sunny Biswas, 18, son of late Pikul Biswas and Mohib Biswas, 17, son of Kamruzzaman Biswas of Gouricharanpur village in Sadar upazila.
The injured, Borhan Molya, 17, was receiving treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
According to OC Gautam Kumar of Ramnagar highway police, the three were on the same motorcycle, heading towards Magura town from their home in Gauricharanpur of Hajipur Union.
Upon reaching the accident site, they lost control of the motorcycle and collided with an easy-bike, throwing all three onto the road. A private car coming from the opposite direction then ran over them.
Both the private car and motorcycle involved in the accident had been seized by the highway police, the OC added.
