Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh detained an Indian national as he entered Bangladesh territory illegally through the Bagbhander area along the bordering Lalmonirhat district on Wednesday night. 

The detained is Md Mozaffar Hossain, 48, son of Mohammad Ali, a resident of Madarganj village in the Shahebganj area in Cooch Behar district in India, said a BGB press release on Thursday.


On information, a patrol team of the BGB on Wednesday night spotted two persons moving suspiciously about 600 yards inside the Bangladesh border at the Votahat market, a statement by the Lalmonirhat 15 Battalion of BGB said.

The BGB team, led by the commander of the Bagbhandar Border Outpost, reached the spot at around 8:15pm.

When BGP questioned the two persons, both of them claimed to be Bangladeshi nationals and said that they came to the market to purchase medicine.

At one point, when the BGB further challenged them, one of the persons fled back into Indian territory while the other was detained.

Later, he was handed over to the Bhurungamari police station after filing a case against him for entering Bangladesh illegally.

Bhurungamari police officer-in-charge Md Ruhul amin told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that BGB handed over the Indian national to police at about 10:00pm on Wednesday after filing a case.

‘We have produced the Indian national before the court on Thursday and the court sent him to jail,’ the OC added.

On Tuesday, a member of India’s Border Security Force was detained by the BGB after he allegedly crossed into the Bangladesh territory illegally at the Pirganj border in Thakurgaon.

Upakumar Das, 32, a member of Gouripur Camp under BSF Battalion-63, was handed over to the BSF after holding a flag meeting hours after he was detained.
