Two women of a family were hacked to death and one person sustained injuries during a clash over land dispute at Shanghat village in Gangni upazila of Meherpur Saturday morning.
The deceased are schoolteacher Jakia Akter alias Elma, 45, wife of Zahid Hossain, of the village and her sister-in-law Josna Khatun, 50, wife of Hafizul Islam and also a mother of three children.
Locals said that the incident occurred in the area while Elma鈥檚 brother-in-law Mohibul Islam Ohid attacked the two women with a machete during a family discussion over an ancestral property, leaving them dead.
Elma鈥檚 husband Zahid Hossain was injured in the attack. He was admitted to Gangni upazila health complex.
Following the incident, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Pritam Saha and officer-in-charge of Gangni Thana Tajul Islam visited the spot.
Assistant sub-inspector of the Gangni Thana Shirin said that the body had been taken to the police custody.
