
No Bangladeshi university is listed in the top 800 universities across the world while the number is 22 for India and nine for Pakistan, according to the newly published World University Rankings 2025.
Only 24 universities from Bangladesh are listed in the rankings, conducted by a British magazine titled Times Higher Education, this year while the number is 133 for India and 94 for Pakistan.
Dhaka University is not listed in the universities ranked between 801 and 1,000, while five other Bangladeshi universities are on the list.
These five universities are Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University ranked first among Bangladeshi universities followed by Daffodil International University, Jahangirnagar University, Jashore University of Science and Technology and North South University.
Of the total 24 universities, 10 are private ones.
On the list of universities ranked between 1,001 and 1,200– Bangladeshi universities are Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, BRAC University, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka University, and Rajshahi University.
American International University-Bangladesh, Khulna University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology and Chittagong University are on the list of the universities ranked between 1,201 and 1,500.
On the list of universities ranked above 1,500 Jagannath University, Dhaka International University, East West University, Independent University, Bangladesh, International University of Business Agriculture and Technology, United International University, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh and Varendra University are also included.
Last year, in the 2024 rankings, BRAC University was in the first and Dhaka University was in the second position between 801 and 1,000 ranked out of 21 universities from the country.
The 2025 rankings include 2,092 ranked universities across the world.
The ranking includes 18 carefully calibrated indicators to assess institutions across five key areas– teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement and international outlook.
