The Anti-Corruption Commission summoned Padma Bank former chairman Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat to appear at the commission over allegations of embezzling Tk 800 crore from banks and share market.

ACC deputy director Masudur Rahman sent a letter to Nafeez Sarafat asking him to appear at the commission headquarters at Segun Bagicha in the capital at 10:00am, according to the notice.

The letter was sent to three addresses of Nafeez Sarafat in the capital鈥檚 Gulshan and Khilkhet areas on October 16, asking him to appear at the ACC to face interrogation over graft charges.

Earlier, the Dhaka Senior Special Judge Court on October 7 imposed an international travel ban on Nafeez Sarafat following an ACC petition.

On August 15, the ACC initiated an inquiry against Nafeez Sarafat over embezzlement of around Tk 800 crore from the bank and share market in various ways through corruption and irregularities.

Nafeez resigned as the chairman of Padma Bank citing health reasons after more than six years in the position in January this year.

He joined the Padma Bank, formerly known as Farmers Bank Limited, in January 2018 after its former chairman Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir resigned from the board for his alleged involvement in financial scams.
