
A teenager, who sustained bullet injury in a gunfight between two drug peddler groups in the Urdu-speaking people camp in the capital’s Mohammadpur area on Saturday evening, died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Monday morning.
The victim, Sazzad Hossain, 13, was admitted to the DMCH after sustaining bullet injury.
Mohammadpur police station officer-in-charge Ali Iftekhar Hasan said that the body of Sazzad would be handed over to his family after post-mortem examinations.
The victim’s father Shamser said that Sazzad sustained bullet injury when he went out from home for collecting water during the gunfight of two groups.
‘He is my only son. The bullet directly hit my son’s chest. The doctor’s conducted a 12-hour long surgery but could not save my child,’ said Shamser, a barber by profession.
Besides Sazzad, at least three people were injured in the gunfight. They are now undergoing treatment at Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
A tense situation is prevailing in and around camp areas as two groups of drug peddlers continued to fighting over spreading dominance in the area.
