A 30-year-old person was killed in an attack by assailants at Mubarakpur village of Jhikargachha upazila in Jashore on Saturday.

The deceased Piyal was the son of Kitab Ali, a resident of the village.


Officer-in-charge of Jhikargachha police station Bablur Rahman confirmed the incident.

According to locals and police, the incident happened when Piyal stood near the Jhikargachha railway station at about 2:00pm. A group of youths attacked him, detonating two bombs in his direction.

As Piyal attempted to flee, the assailants chased and dragged him to the balcony of Jhikargachha Girls’ High School, where they hacked him with sharp weapons, inflicting critical injuries.

Locals rushed Piyal to the Jhikargachha upazila health complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.

Following the incident, the police launched a large-scale search operation in the Jhikargachha market area, but no arrests have been made yet.

‘Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the murder. Also, Efforts are underway to arrest those responsible for the matter, OC Bablur Rahman said.
