A youth appeared at Dakshing Surma Police Station of Sylhet Metropolitan Police on Monday night to prove that he did not die, although his wife alleged that he was killed during the anti-discrimination student movement at Ashulia in Dhaka on August 5.

She also filed a complaint in this regard with the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Dhaka after the fall of Sheikh Hasina amid the student-led mass uprising.

Dakshin Surma police station officer-in-charge Abul Hussain confirmed incident to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.

He said that Alamin Mia, 34, son of Nurul Islam of Rangpur sadar upazila of the Rangpur division, appeared at the police station at about 9:00 pm on Monday and claimed that he did not die but his wife Kulsuma Begum, 21, filed a case mentioning that he was killed on August 5 during the student movement in Ashulia.

Alamin said that he along with his father had been living in Pirojpur under 25 No ward of Sylhet City Corporation for more than three decades and he was working as a sales representative of a private company in Moulvibazar, the police officer said.

Alamin claimed that he had a conflict with his wife several weeks back when they had been living in Juri upazila and his wife Kulsuma left for her father’s house at Ashulia in Dhaka.

The police officer said that Alamin stated that one of the victims, who killed in police shootout at Ashulia on August 5, could not be identified and his wife took the incident as a scope to have money from the government and other quarters.

‘Kulsuma filed a petition with the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Dhaka on October 24 against 130 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, claiming that I was killed in Ashulia clash,’ Alamin said, adding that the court accepted the allegation and ordered the Ashulia police station to record a case in this regard.

‘He stated that he went in hiding after hearing the news of filing the case and now he came to the police station to get rid of the harassment,’ the OC said.

The OC also said that they had contacted the Ashulia police immediately after receiving Alamin’s complaint.

‘Ashulia police station sub-inspector Rakibul Hossain, also investigation officer in the case, reached the Dashing Surma police station on Tuesday morning and Alamin was handed over to him,’ the OC Abul Hossain said.

Rakibul Hossain told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Tuesday night that Alamin would be produced to the concerned court on Wednesday seeking it’s directive about him.

‘Kulsum was absconding,’ the police officer added.
