
A fake female doctor was detained at the Ear Nose Throat Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday afternoon.
The accused, Papia Akter Swarna, 25, was caught by the ENT department physicians from ward 303 after her activities raised suspicion among the doctors.
An ENT department patient, Nurul Alam, said that the fake doctor took Tk 28,000 from him for conducting a surgery on him. Nurul was supposed to pay Tk 2,000 more as per the deal with the fake doctor.
‘When I went to give her the rest of the money today, physicians in the ward noticed it and became suspicious about the woman. Grilled by the physicians, the woman gave contradictory statements about her identity,’ said Nurul Amin.
The physicians then handed over the woman to the police stationed at the DMCH.
Papia first introduced self as a junior student of the DMCH and then again as a student of nursing college.
‘I took money from the patient mistakenly,’ Papia excused.
DMCH police outpost in-charge Md Faruk said that Ansar members handed over the fake doctor to them.
Faruk also said that Papia claimed that she was six months’ pregnant.
Faruk added that they had handed over Papia to Shahbagh police station.
Shahbagh police station officer-in-charge AKM Shahabuddin Shaheen told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they were interrogating the accused.
