Bangladesh interim government chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday condemned the murder of a lawyer in the port city of Chattogram and ordered an investigation into the killing, says a press release issued by CA press wing.

Yunus also ordered law enforcement agencies to step up security in the port city, including in all the vulnerable neighbourhoods, and urged people to keep calm and stay away from participating in any untoward activities.


The interim government is committed to ensuring and upholding communal harmony in Bangladesh at any cost, adds the release.

Advocate Saiful Islam Alif was hacked to death during a clash between the police and supporters of former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das on a Chattogram court premises on Tuesday after the court rejected bail to Chinmoy in a sedition case.

Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Fazlul Qader said Saiful was declared dead when he was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital around 3:00pm.
