
The Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday filed six separate cases against former health minister Zahid Maleque, former state minister for posts, telecommunications, and information technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and former state minister for textiles and jute Mirza Azam and their family members, on charges of amassing illegal wealth.
The commission also decided to impose international travel bans on 16 people, including former industries minister Amir Hossain Amu and former railway minister Mujibul Haque, over allegations of corruption.
Earlier on the day, the cases and the travel bans were approved at a meeting of the commission led by newly appointed ACC chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen at its Segun Bagicha headquarters in Dhaka.
The cases were filed with ACC鈥檚 integrated district office in Dhaka-1 for allegations of amassing illegal wealth, said ACC director general (Prevention) Akhtar Hossain.
ACC filed two cases against Zahid Maleque and his five other family members, including his wife and three sons, on charges of amassing assets worth Tk聽90.57 crore through abuse of power and amassing illegal wealth.
The other accused are Zahid Maleque鈥簊 son Rahat Maleque, his wife Shabana Maleque, daughter-in law Sakiba Maleque, his daughter Sadia Maleque, and another daughter Synthia Akmal.
聽聽The commission filed two cases against Mirza Azam and his wife Dewan Aleya for allegedly acquiring assets worth Tk聽67.54 crore.
In addition, the case also states that evidence has been found of deposits of Tk聽725 crore and withdrawals of Tk聽724 crore in 60 bank accounts in the name of various business entities related to Mirza Azam鈥簊 interests.
聽The commission filed two cases against Zunaid Ahmed Palak and his wife Arifa Jasmine for allegedly acquiring assets worth Tk聽18.32 crore.
聽Besides, the ACC decided to impose international travel bans on 16 people on allegations of amassing illegal wealth.
聽They are Feni-1 constituency鈥檚 former lawmaker Alauddin Ahmed Chowdhury Nasim, former Bhola-3 lawmaker Nur Nabi Chowdhury Shawon, Habiganj-3 ex-lawmaker Abu Jahir, Noakhali-1 ex-lawmaker HM Ibrahim Chowdhury, and Lakshmipur-2 former lawmaker Nur Uddin Chowdhury Nayon.
Apart from this, the commission also decided to impose international travel bans on former railway minister Mujibul Haque, former state minister for foreign ministry Shahriar Alam, former lawmaker Bahauddin Bahar and his daughter and Cumilla City former mayor Tahasin Bahar Suchana, former industries minister Amir Hossain Amu and his daughter Sumaya, his personal assistant Farrukh Majid Mahmud, and Farrukh鈥檚 wife Rafeza Majid, and Dhaka Regency Hotel & Resort managing director Kabir Reza and his wife Rokaya Khatun.
