The 22nd anniversary of the death of Tebhaga Movement leader and Workers Party of Bangladesh founding president Amal Sen will be observed today.

The party and the Comrade Amal Sen Smritiraksha Committee are scheduled to hold programmes in Bankri village of Bagherpara upazila in Jashore today to mark his death anniversary.


On Thursday, different political parties as well as peasant and labour organisations in Dhaka placed wreaths at a portrait of Amal Sen at the Workers’ Party central office on Topkhana Road in Dhaka to pay tribute to the leftist leader marking his death anniversary.

The Workers Party central committee led by acting president Mahmudul Hasan Manik and acting general secretary Nur Ahmed Bakul, Samyabadi Dal, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-Jasod leaders placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Amal Sen at party’s central office.

The Bangladesh Juba Maitree, the Bangladesh Chhatra Moitri, the Bangladesh Khetmajur Union, the Bangladesh Nari Mukti Sangsad,  Jatiya Krishak Samiti, Jatiya Sramik Federation, the Jatiya Garments Sramik Karmachari Federation, the Textile Garments Workers’ Federation and the Sramik Karmahari Oikya Parishad, among others, also paid homage to the leader.

The Comrade Amal Sen Smritiraksha Committee will also hold a daylong programme at Amal Sen’s village home at Bakri today.

Amal Sen was born into a zamindar family at village Afra in Narail on July 19, 1914 and died at the age of 89 in the capital on January 17, 2003.
