A farmer was beaten to death allegedly by a rival group in Gaurashwar Paschim Para Jame Masjid area under Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur on Friday.
The deceased is Selim Kabiraj, 45, son of Abul Kalam Kabiraj, a resident of that area.
The rival group attacked Selim with lethal weapons over planting paddy in a land, after jumma prayers when he came out from a local mosque and bit him mercilessly. Selim died on the spot, said officer-in-charge of Hajiganj police station Md Mohiuddin Faruk.
A case was filed in this connection.
