Former Awami League lawmaker from Sirajganj-6 (Shahjadpur) constituency Chayan Islam was arrested at a residence of his relative in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur, said police on Monday morning.

Chayan鈥檚 wife and an associate were also detained from the house and taken to the police station.


Officer-in-charge of Sreepur police station Joynal Abedin Mondol said that being tipped-off they came to know that the former lawmaker was hiding at the house at village Tepir Bagan.

Police arrested him raiding the house with the help of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and BNP activists at about 12:30am on Sunday, he said.

The former lawmaker had been hiding in the house for around the past two months, the OC said, adding that they took his wife and an associate under their custody.
