
The grand finale and closing ceremony of the 9th Bangladesh qualifying rounds of the Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2025 has recently taken place at the American International University-Bangladesh.
The event was organised by Jessup Bangladesh in association with International Law Students Association, Hearth Bangladesh, and American International University-Bangladesh, said a press release on Thursday.
This year’s qualifying round featured 44 teams from different universities across the country. The final round was presided over by Justice Md Rezaul Hasan, judge, High Court division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh.
He was joined by co-adjudicators Professor Guðmundur EirÃksson, former judge of ITLOS and Professor at Jindal Global Law School, and Barrister Sara Hossain, deputy head of chambers and partner at Dr Kamal Hossain and Associates.Â
After intense and rigorous arguments, BRAC University emerged as the champion of the 9th Bangladesh Qualifying Rounds, with Eastern University securing the position of runners-up.
Mahir Chowdhury from Eastern University was recognised as the ‘Best Mooter’ of the competition, while the ‘Best Applicant Memorial Award’ was conferred upon North South University and Jahangirnagar University received the ‘Best Respondent Memorial Award’.
Additionally, the ‘Best New Team Award’ was presented to Noakhali Science and Technology University, recognising their exceptional commitment to the competition’s values.
The ceremony was graced by, including Hasanul A Hasan, founder member and vice-chairman of the AIUB board of trustees; Carmen Z Lamagna, AIUB BoT member and Professor Saiful Islam, AIUB vice-chancellor, among others.
