A car driver was injured when an intercity train hit his vehicle at a railway level crossing in Fenchuganj upazila of Sylhet Tuesday noon.

Local residents said that the Paharika Express hit the private car at Rajanpur railway level crossing near Fenchuganj railway station at about 12:15pm, throwing the car into a paddy field about 20 meters from the tracks.


The car, decorated with flowers, was on its way to pick up a groom from a nearby village. However, locals reported that the vehicle stalled on the tracks when its engine suddenly failed.

Fenchuganj police station officer-in-charge Moniruzzaman confirmed the incident, stating that the driver was rescued and taken to the local upazila health complex.

Due to the severity of his injuries, doctors referred him to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, the OC added.
