
The police could not arrest anyone till Thursday night in connection with a series of clash between activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party鈥檚 student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Students Against Discrimination on Khulna University of Engineering and Technology campus and in adjacent areas on Tuesday.
KUET security inspector Md Moniruzzaman Liton filed the case at about 10:30pm on Wednesday against 400 to 500 unnamed people with the Khan Jahan Ali police station over the clash that left about 100 injured.
鈥榃e are conducting investigation into the case and combing operations are underway to arrest the accused. We could not arrest anyone so far in the case,鈥 Khan Jahan Ali police officer-in-charge Kabir Hossain said.
He said that they had deployed additional police personnel on the campus area but the situation was now normal.
He said that the university authorities claimed that at least 50 students were injured in the clash.
Asked why none was named in the case, OC Kabir said that the university authorities did not name anybody in the case statement.
Hours before filing the case, the KUET authorities upheld its previous decision to ban student politics on the campus amid a tense situation over the clash.
The decision was made at the 98th syndicate meeting amid protests by the students on the campus with their six-point demand, including a ban on politics and the resignation of the vice-chancellor and giving treatment costs of all students wounded in the clash.
The authorities also decided to expel students for life and cancel their studentship for engaging in politics while no employees, officials and teachers will be allowed to participate in politics, KUET pro-vice-chancellor professor SK Shariful Alam told 抖阴精品 on Wednesday.
The Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and the Students Against Discrimination that led the July mass uprising forcing the fall of Sheikh Hasina regime, traded blames over the clash.
