Train movement on Dhaka-Mymensingh route remained suspended for one and a half hours on Saturday after an engine of a train caught fire near Dhala Station in Trishal upazila in Mymensingh district.

Akter Hossain, officer-in-charge of Mymensingh railway police station, said that the engine of the Dewanganj-bound Dewanganj commuter train went out of order after it caught fire at about 10:30am, when it just crossed the Dhala station, forcing the authorities to stop train movement.

Panic gripped the passengers as smoke was billowing out of the engine.

However, the rail authorities managed to extinguish the fire after pouring water.
