A Juba League leader was hacked to death allegedly by his rivals in Santhia upazila of Pabna on Monday night, said police.

The deceased, Amirul Islam Master, was the son of Lohai Pramanik from village Khetupara in Khetupara Union.


He worked as an office assistant at Khetupara High School and was the proposed organisational secretary of the upazila Juba League committee.

Family members and police said there had long been a dispute between Amirul and local Awami League activists Khaleq, Imu, and Mithu.

Around 8:00pm, the accused allegedly assaulted Amirul鈥檚 brother Ashraf. Hearing the news, Amirul rushed to the scene but the attackers forced him into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, took him some distance away, and hacked him before fleeing in Chak Pata Uttarpara area of Gaurigram union, they said.

Local people rescued him and took him to Santhia Upazila Health Complex where physicians declared him dead.

Santhia Police Station officer-in-charge Saidur Rahman said they were at the scene and trying to gather details. Further information will be provided later.
