The Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday conducted a drive at the directorate of secondary and higher education’s Rajshahi zone office on charges of taking bribes from the teachers for approving and forwarding teachers’ MPO and pay arrears.

A team led by ACC Rajshahi integrated office assistant director Ismail Hossain conducted the drive at the office of deputy director (college section) Alamgir Kabir, after a victim teacher lodged a complaint with the commission, alleging that Alamgir Kabir does not approve and forward any application without bribes.

Kabir demands large sums of money for MPO inclusion and transfers, as well as for approving leave or no-objection certificates, the victim teacher said, alleging that that Kabir is holding back 183 files for bribes.

Borhan Uddin, deputy director of the ACC Rajshahi integrated office, said that they primarily found that the deputy director held back 151 applications of teachers’ MPO and pay arrears without any reason.

‘When asked, the deputy director claimed that he had not been able to approve and forward the applications due to illness and because the server had been down for three days,’ he said, adding that they had requested the DD to submit a written explanation by Sunday.

He said that they would take further actions after the DD submitted his written explanation

Md Ashaduzzaman, director of secondary and higher education’s Rajshahi zone office, said that he could hold an application for a maximum of 10 days while the assistant director for seven days, and the deputy director for five days.

‘But Alamgir Kabir does not forward applications on time. I contacted him over the phone, sent messages on WhatsApp, and even visited his room, but he did not forward the applications,’ he alleged.

Ashaduzzaman said that Alamgir Kabir had recently forwarded him 23 applications of teachers’ MPO and pay arrears but these could no longer be sent to Dhaka as the deadline for forwarding to the head office had already passed.
