Teachers, students and staff of Pirojpur Science and Technology University formed a human chain, demanding exemplary punishment for rape and violence against women, in front of the administrative building of university in Pirojpur on Thursday.

Vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Md Shahidul, Islam participated as chief guest in the human chain, said a press release on Friday.


He said that the people of the country were very scared and worried about the increase in rape and violence against women across the country.

‘Recently, from children to the elderly and pregnant women are being raped and tortured in the country. In various recent incidents, it seems that women are not safe anywhere - schools, colleges, universities and streets,’ he added.

Refereeing to the human rights organisation Ain O Salish Kendra that 294 women and children have been victims of torture in the first two months of this year, he said that among the 96 people, 44 were children. ‘

He also urged the government to take strict action against rape and violence against women, demanded that those involved in these incidents be identified and given exemplary punishment as soon as possible.

He also urged the government to investigate whether the recent increase in incidents of rape and violence against women is a conspiracy against the country.

Among others, dean of the faculty of science Akhter Hossain, assistant professor of the department of mathematics MM Ayub Hossain, lecturer of the department of psychology Nazma Akhter spoke at the human chain.

A large number of students of the university participated in the human chain with placards, banners, and festoons.
