A soil trader was killed and another was injured in an attack allegedly by robbers on Boroibari-Haturia Chala regional road in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur on Thursday night, said police.
The deceased, Sajeeb Hossain, 38, hailing from village Gavchala under Boali union of the upazila, was involved in the soil supply business to brick kilns.
The injured Royal Mia was undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Local people said that a gang of robbers intercepted the duo boarding a motorbike on their way to local Chala Bazar in Haturia Chala area at about 9:00pm.
The robbers attacked them with sharp weapons when they tried to flee leaving the motorbike. The attack left Sajeeb killed on the spot and Royal injured.
Hearing screams of the victims, local people came out of the houses and caught two robbers red-handed and beat them up, they said.
Later, the accused were handed over to the police.
Kaliakair police station鈥檚 officer-in-charge Riyad Mahmud said that the body was sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.
Legal action in this regard was taken, the OC added.
