A man was hacked to death allegedly by his brother-in-law on Saturday over a piece of land in the Nawdapara area in Rajshahi city.

The deceased is Ruhul Amin, 40, son of late Nazrul Islam of Nawdapara Kalur Mor area in the city.


According to family members and police, there had been a long-standing dispute between Ruhul and his brother-in-law Mintu over a piece of land.

While measuring the land by a surveyor on Saturday morning, Ruhul and Mintu locked into an altercation.

At one stage of the altercation, Mintu hacked Ruhul at the throat and hand, leaving the latter critically injured, they said.

Family members took Ruhul to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Masuma Mustari, officer-in-charge of the Shah Makhdum police station, said that the process of filing a case was under in this regard.

She said that police were trying to trace out and arrest Mintu as he went into hiding following the incident.
