Parveen Mahmud

Parveen Mahmud has been elected as chairperson of the Manusher Jonno Foundation, a non-government organisation that works to promote human rights and good governance.

She assumed the office on Sunday, said a MJF press release.

Parveen Mahmud succeeded the late industrialist Syed Manzur Elahi who passed away on March 12 at a hospital in Singapore.

Parveen holds the distinction of being the first woman to become president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh in 2011 and the first female president and board member of the South Asian Federation of Accountants, the apex accounting body of the SAARC.

She founded the CA Female Forum – Women in Leadership Committee, ICAB in 2017, and served as vice-chairperson of SAFA’s Women in Leadership Committee until 2019.

Parveen, who is currently managing director of Shasha Garments Ltd and chairperson of RDRS Bangladesh, began her professional journey with BRAC and later served as partner at ACNABIN and Co, deputy managing director of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation, and founding managing director of the Grameen Telecom Trust.

She also involved with Friendship, HerStory Foundation, Moner Bondhu, and Cider International School, and served as an independent director at Marico Bangladesh, Apex Footwear Ltd, and Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd.

Her contributions have been recognised with several prestigious awards, including the Top 50 Professional and Career Women Award 2023 – Sri Lanka in the Leadership in Finance and Accounting category, Anannya Top Ten Award 2019, Begum Rokeya Shining Personality Award 2006, Joya Alokito Nari Award 2018, and awards from BASIS and BOLD for her contributions to women’s empowerment.
