
Two youths were killed and two others were severely injured after falling from the roof of a moving train while they were making TikTok videos on mobile phone at Akhaura in Brahmanbaria on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Kaiyum Mia, 22, son of expatriate Abdul Karim and resident of Baura village of Mohonpur union at Debidwar upazila in Cumilla and Tarek Mia, 20, from Kasba upazila in Brahmanbaria, said railway police.
A press release issued by the railways ministry on the day said that at about 11:00am the Paharika Express was heading towards Sylhet from Chattogram.
The incident took place when the train crossed the Gangasagar rail station and reached to the Mogra rail bridge.
At that time the four youths got onto the train roof and three of them started making TikTok videos of one of their friends on their phones.
But all four fell from the train roof after being entangled with a wire of dish antenna along the rail track.
Kaiyum died on the spot and locals rushed two injured to the Akhaura Upazila Health Complex and one to the Brahmanbaria general hospital.
Tarek died on his way to the hospital.
Defying the directive issued the railways authorities against travelling on train roofs, some passengers try to travel on train roofs, which often causes deaths.
The Bangladesh Railway gave directive for imposing additional alarm for preventing all from of travelling on train roofs, it added.
Akhaura railway police officer-in-charge Jasim Uddin Khandakar said that the bodies were awaiting autopsy.
‘If no one files a case, we will file an unnatural death case regarding the incident,’ he added.
Deceased Kaiyum’s paternal grandfather Mohammad Jahangir Alam said that Kaiyum was with his three friends and they were roaming during Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.
They were distraught by his death, he added.
