
The Dhaka North City Corporation, in separate drives in the capital’s Agargaon and Uttara areas on Wednesday, evicted about 400 illegal shops that had been set up occupying footpaths and roads.
In a drive conducted in the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area of Agargaon, which falls under Zone-5 of Dhaka north city, more than 200 illegal shops, including hotels and makeshift (tong) shops, occupying both sides of the road leading to the Dhaka-Aricha highway were evicted.Â
‘About 1.5 kilometres of road and footpaths were cleared of illegal occupation,’ said zonal executive officer Mohammad Saiful Islam.Â
In another drive conducted in the capital’s Uttara Sector-10 area by DNCC’s Zone-1 executive officer Md Sadequr Rahman and estate officer Farzana Khanom, about 200 illegally built makeshift stalls were evicted from the Ranabhola Road, stretching from the Sector-10 switch gate to Kamarpara.
Nearly one kilometre of roads and footpaths were cleared of illegal occupation, said a DNCC press release.
