A Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Jubodal activist was stabbed to death in Sirajganj on Friday night allegedly by a gang of drug dealers over an altercation centring the construction of a bamboo shed.

Deceased Ajmir Hossain Bipul, 35, was a resident of Rambari village of Shahzadpur upazila in Sirajganj.


Confirming the matter, Shahzadpur police officer-in-charge Aslam Ali said that his body was kept at Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

No case was filed as of Saturday evening, he said, adding that the police detained three people for questioning.

Elder brother of the deceased Nuruzzaman said that Bipul was associated with Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Jubodal.

Local people and the police said that a gang of drug addicts and dealers attacked Bipul with a hammer and then stabbed him when an altercation broke out between them over the construction of a bamboo shed in the area.

He was rushed to Shahzadpur Upazila Health Complex. In deteriorating condition he was taken to Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead at about 11:30pm on Friday.
