Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, the student wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, on Sunday demanded removal of National Curriculum and Textbook Board chairman and its member (textbook) for their connection with ousted Awami League regime.

In a joint statement, the JCD president Rakibul Islam Rakib and general secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir said that the NCTB had one of the main responsibilities to inform the next generation about the significance of the July-August mass uprising that forced Sheikh Hasina to flee to India bringing an end to a 15-year fascist AL regime.

‘But the NCTB officials are still nurturing fascism. If we cannot remove fascists from the NCTB, it will not be possible to inform our next generation the correct history,’ they said.

According to the JCD, NCTB chairman Robiul Kabir Chowdhury and member (textbook) Riad Choudhury are the beneficiaries of Hasina’s fascist regime and have close ties to former ministers Dipu Moni and Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, said a press release, adding that the activities of fascist accomplices are still visible in the NCTB.

‘We demand the interim government to remove these two officials from NCTB immediately,’ said the JCD leaders.

The NCTB is not upholding the July uprising although it is cherished by all the democracy-loving people in Bangladesh and abroad, said the press release.

Their negligence in making an objective curriculum for teaching in primary and secondary level students about the uprising is noticeable and the NCTB is clearly unwilling to highlight the sacrifices of the brave martyrs in the curriculum, read the press release.

Robiul was appointed as acting chairman on August 19 and Riad on September 9, 2024 after the uprising.
