
The vice-chancellor of Dhaka University professor Niaz Ahmed Khan said on Sunday that they wanted to reduce the university’s dependence on the government.
The VC also said that they also wanted to keep the university administration outside of politics.
He made these remarks on the day at a cheque handover ceremony held at the lounge adjacent to the vice-chancellor’s office.
Addressing the alumni at the event, vice-chancellor professor Niaz Ahmad Khan said, ‘We want to maintain a natural and social relationship with you.’
‘Over time, universities have become detached from society,’ the VC said, adding, ‘Through continuous communication, we will build a bond with the society.’
At the event Al-Arafah Bank Limited handed over a cheque of Tk 1 million for the ‘Floor Extension Project’ of the Department of Statistics.
Dhaka University treasurer professor M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, National University pro-vice-chancellor Md Lutfor Rahaman, chair of the Department of Statistics professor Zafar Ahmed Khan, professor Sayema Sharmin, acting managing director of Al-Arafah Bank Rafat Ullah Khan, deputy managing director Abdullah Al Mamun, and several other bank officials were present at the event.
