
Off-spinner Mahedi Hasan claimed a fifer to put Khulna Division on top against Dhaka Metro on the second day of their third round National Cricket League match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.聽
Resuming the day on 358-6, Khulna lost the rest of their four wickets for just 26 runs to be all out for 376, but they hit back in style to establish their full dominance.
Mahedi played a key role with his 5-62 to skittle out Metro for 210 and forced them to follow-on. After following on, Metro reached 12-0 at stumps.
Abdul Halim took 3-28 to complement Mahedi in giving Metro a torrid period.
Captain Naim Sheikh top-scored with 54 after opening the innings. He gave the side a good start but Mahedi and Halim brought Khulna back into contention.
Aminul Islam Biplob made 44, while Marshall Ayub scored 37.
In another game, Sylhet pacer Tofael Ahmed (3-13) struck thrice to reduce Rangpur to 66-5 after 20 overs, with a lead of 35 runs at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra.
After wrapping up Rangpur for 158, Sylhet took a 31-run first-innings lead by scoring 189, thanks to wicketkeeper batter Amite Hasan鈥檚 gritty 57 off 104.
At stumps, skipper Akbar Ali and Tanbir Hayder were unbeaten on four and two runs, respectively.
At the Cox鈥檚 Bazar Academy Ground, Chattogram scored 371 in their first innings against Dhaka Division, riding on a 221-run partnership between Sazzadul Hoque Ripon and Parvez Hossain Emon.
Resuming on 107-1, overnight batter Ripon completed his maiden first-class ton, scoring 139 off 185 balls with 14 boundaries and five sixes.聽
At the same time, Emon missed a ton but scored 95 off 114, including nine fours and two sixes.
In reply, Dhaka reached 22-0 at stumps, trailing by 349 runs with Ashikur Rahman Shibli (13) and Joyraj Sheikh (9) at the crease.
At the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium, opener Iftakhar Hossain Ifti struck a valiant 116 to help Barishal post 205-10 in 72.4 overs against Rajshahi after the first day was abandoned due to a wet field.
Mohammad Salman Hossain Emon (30) and Moinul Islam (33) played 30-plus knocks, while the others failed to reach double digits.聽
Medium pacer Walid returned with an impressive 4-51 for Rajshahi.
